What is new on SunSonde
The site is updated in numbered releases. Each entry says what changed for visitors.
Version 1.0.9
26 October 2026current№9 Launch: the site is open to search engines
The site leaves closed mode: pages may be indexed, there is a sitemap and robots rules, social and messenger cards with a board image, and a phone icon. The How it works page gains acknowledgements of data sources and their terms, plus an honest note: SunSonde is not an official warning service.
See /about?lang=en, /sitemap.xml, /robots.txt
№10 The sandbox opens with an administrator sign-in
Internal: the separate sandbox password is gone. Only an administrator signed in with the same account as on the live site sees the sandbox; one sign-in works on both addresses. Everyone else gets a sign-in page. Nothing changes for visitors of the live site.
Version 1.0.8
26 October 2026№8 Storm e-mails: the service file reached the site
Internal: the storm e-mail script was left out of release 7 by the file tracking rule; fixed. Nothing changes for visitors.
Version 1.0.7
26 October 2026№7 My place, my observatories and storm e-mails
Signed-in visitors see a Near you block on the board: aurora probability above your place within the hour, day or night where you are, readings from the nearest observatories and the state of e-mails. In the account you set your place (coordinates, can be detected by the browser), up to five observatories and a Kp threshold for e-mail: 5, 6 or 7. One e-mail when the threshold is reached, no more than once per 12 hours, with a test e-mail button. Release buttons in the sandbox are now visible only to a signed-in administrator.
Version 1.0.6
26 October 2026№6 Sign-in and account
A Sign in button appeared in the header. Registration by e-mail: enter the address, give your name, choose a password and confirm the code from the e-mail. Once signed in, the header shows the first letter of your name with a menu: account and sign out. The account page keeps your name, language and theme, and lets you change the password. A forgotten password is recovered with a code sent to your e-mail. Registration is optional: the board works without it.
Version 1.0.5
26 October 2026№5 Help: board hints and a glossary
A "?" button appeared in the header. On the board it walks through the panels with short hints: what the badge means, the wind gauges, ejection tracking, the map, impacts, the strip. A new Help page: how to read each panel, how fresh the data is, and a glossary where each term comes with what it means for you. In both languages.
See /help?lang=en, /?tour=page
Version 1.0.4
26 October 2026№4 Two languages: Russian and English
The site now speaks two languages. The header has an RU and EN switch, remembered for a year. Everything is translated: the board with all panels and live phrases, impacts, the How it works, Privacy and What is new pages. Dates and times follow the chosen language and your time zone.
See /?lang=en, /about?lang=en
Version 1.0.3
26 October 2026№3 Shared header, themes, and the How it works and Privacy pages
The site now has a shared header with sections: board, how it works, what is new. On the right, a theme switch: dark, light or system, remembered between visits. New pages: How it works (what each panel shows, one-line terms, data sources and their delays, what the forecast can and cannot do) and Privacy (what the site keeps about a visitor). Every page ends with the site version and data sources.
Version 1.0.2
26 October 2026№2 Release by button
Internal change: in the sandbox, the What is new page now has Release and check buttons next to each pending change. Nothing changes for visitors of the public site.
See /changes?lang=en
Version 1.0.1
26 October 2026№1 The What is new page and numbered releases
The site now has a /changes page: release history with numbered changes, in Russian and English. The board footer shows the site version. The site is updated in numbered releases, each described on that page.
